How Do I Start my Kitchen Project?

Whilst this might sound like an odd question, it’s one that is frequently asked and lets face it; if you have never ordered a bespoke manufactured kitchen before - its a very valid question!

At Churchwood Design, we would suggest the following stages:

  1. Go on ‘Pinterest’ and look through magazines to save kitchen images that take your fancy. It might be that you save some images for colours and finishes; others for furniture styles and accessories - or perhaps even both. It’s actually a good idea to get a folder or even a cheap scrap book to save / record the imagery that appeals to you.

  2. Have a think about what you would like to do in your kitchen……make a wish list. This can be down to what cooking you like to do as well as the size of space you have and how you would like to utilise it. For example, you might want a kitchen island or a peninsular to create additional storage as well as a breakfast bar arrangement. You might want a study zone, within your kitchen, for working from home? Anything is possible.

  3. Armed with all the above information, get in touch with us. We can then come to your home to not only discuss your kitchen requirements and tastes, but also, to do a brief site survey and measure up. This process can take around an hour; however, its quite important, since it enable us to provide you with accurate drawings and costs. At this point, there are NO costs involved and there isn’t any obligation or sales pressure. This simply isn’t how Churchwood Design operates!

At this stage we can give you a rough idea regarding costs

If its a new build home or extension that hasn’t, as yet, been built, we can work from emailed or copied plans.

  4. From our initial visit and supplied information, we would expect to get back to you with drawings, ideas and more accurate costings, within around a week to 12 days; depending upon the size / complexity of your project and how busy we might be. Please remember, we are a small - family run business.

Ideally, we like to present these in person in order to fully explain our concepts and thought process. This can be done at your home OR you could come to our workshop and showroom; this would give you the opportunity of seeing the quality of our work first hand.

Once again, at this stage, there is NO obligation or costs for our time thus far. Drawings can be left with you for you to think about; of course, revisions can be made as necessary once you have had chance to fully digest our ideas.

  5. Once you are fully satisfied with all drawings, specifications and costings and would like to place an order for your bespoke kitchen commission, we ask you for a 5% deposit of the total order value.

  6. Churchwood Design’s lead time, from order and deposit to the start of manufacture is around 10 to 12 weeks. Don’t forget, this is a bespoke-custom-made product and not an ‘off the shelf’ furniture range! At this point - the start of the manufacturing process, we then ask for 20% of the total order value.

  7. Within around 5 to 6 weeks - the time it takes to manufacture and finish your kitchen commission, in our workshops, we then ask for 65% of the total order value. This is payable prior to the furniture being delivered to your home.

  8. Depending on the size and complexity of your kitchen, fitting - using our own, highly skilled team, takes around 5 to 10 working days. If stone tops have been specified (granite or similar), templating is usually done, for accuracy, one the cabinetry / furniture has been installed.

One furniture is installed and we are happy with the fit and finish, the final 10% of the total amount becomes payable.

  9. Once a Churchwood Design customer - always a customer! We will come and inspect your kitchen once fully complete and with worktops fitted to double check that everything is OK and that you are completely satisfied.

To be reassured of our quality and attention to detail, we are now in our fourth decade of business and many of the orders that we receive come from recommendations and repeat business.
